Details:

The Tequila Expo takes place Saturday, May 28, 2016, 7-10pm at the Vancouver Hyatt Regency Hotel, 655 Burrard Street, Vancouver, BC.

The Cocktail Competition will take place from 7:30-9:15pm at the Expo, to ensure that winners can be announced to the general public attending the Expo at the same time as we announce the People's Choice award winners among the tequila brands exhibited at the Expo.

Rules and Information:

Interested participants will submit one (1) cocktail recipe featuring at least 1 oz/30ml of Peloton de la Muerte Mezcal by filling out and submitting this form on or before May 1 at 4pm. The top competitors will be selected by a panel of judges using CPBA judging criteria. These submissions will be considered by the judges, and the top twelve (12) competitors will be announced on or before May 8. Competitors are not required to present their initial cocktail recipe at the Competition – but they will be required to submit four recipe cards at the time of the Competition with their Competition cocktail.

From there, the competitors must showcase the recipe as it appears on the card. Each competitor will have a total of 6 minutes to create 2 identical cocktails and present them to the judges. Points will be deducted at 0.5 per 30 seconds over. Once they have presented, competitors will provide batched small (1/3-1/2 size) samples (30) of their cocktail, that will be available for any spectators on a first-come, first-serve basis (Note that the "first-come, first-serve" concept of this portion of the evening will be VERY clear to Expo attendees). Any in-advance batching, mixing, or ingredient creation that competitors may wish to do is at their discretion. Peloton will be provided for the competition - all other ingredients, equipment and glassware must be self-supplied.

Competitors must provide all spirits & ingredients needed for their cocktail, and their own tools and glassware for the preparation and presentation of the cocktail. There will no mixers, spirits, tools, fruit or other provided on site.

Competitors will also each receive a ticket to both the Trade and Public components of the Tequila Expo Grand Tasting Hall/Main Event, and are expected to arrive no later than 6:30pm at the venue on the night of the Event. Upon arrival, please check in with Eric Lorenz or Samantha Scholefield. All will compete 2 at a time in six pairs chosen at random, and will be judged on standard CPBA criteria by an additional panel of judges.

Winner will be announced by 9:45pm at the Main Event.
